FAQ

Color Contrast Checker FAQ

What contrast ratio do I need to pass WCAG?

WCAG 2.1 Level AA requires at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text (18pt+, or 14pt+ bold). Level AAA requires at least 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text.

How is the contrast ratio calculated?

It's based on the relative luminance of both colors, following the WCAG 2.1 formula, and ranges from 1:1 (no contrast, identical colors) to 21:1 (maximum contrast, pure black on pure white).

Is my color data sent anywhere?

No. The contrast ratio is calculated entirely in your browser with JavaScript — nothing is sent to TripleW Tools or any server.
